on the left is my father at 203 pounds, and on the right is a picture of him yesterday weighing in at 174 pounds lost from doing the Paleo Diet.
This past Christmas, I went to my family’s house as usual to celebrate Christmas and open presents with the family. My dad had gotten a wetsuit as a present because we wanted to start surfing again. Keep in mind I am from Hawaii and as a little girl, thats all my father did. If he wasn’t surfing, he would be at the beach with us, mountain biking, or waking up really early in the morning to go spear fishing. My dad practically lived in the water.
We then moved to Pullman, Washington where we were surrounded by wheat fields in all directions so dad did not get to make it as often. Even now he does architecture, real estate, and helps out with my little brother Ian’s football, wresting and other activities so he is always busy.
He got that wet suit on Christmas and did not feel the same. He had gained weight over the years and weighed in at 203 pounds and that was way beyond the weight he wanted to be for getting back into his passion of surfing. He mentioned that he was going to go on a Paleo Diet. I had not heard of this until he mentioned it and I didn’t believe in dieting until he talked about what it was. It’s basically a caveman diet with no preservatives, grass-fed meat products, nuts and seeds, fruit, raw items, and no sugar and lots of creative vegetables.
Anyway, I have never seen my dad so happy in awhile! He dropped from 203 pounds on Christmas to a lean 174 pounds as of today. This is all from changing his diet! He doesn’t do vigorous exercise or crash dieting and limiting his options, he just switched to a new healthy lifestyle and has benefited not only physically, but mentally and internally I believe his cholesterol and blood pressure have gone down. He cooks every meal and its all very tasty. I thought I’d share his story because for me it is inspiring:)

Wow! Tell him congrats!

That’s so wonderful! Congrats to your Dad. Paleo is seriously a life-changing experience, and I’m so happy he’s found it. You might tell him to check out “Mark’s Daily Apple,” and I can recommend a ton more websites for recipes and tips if he’s interested.

Does he have some recipes from this type of diet that you can post? I’m curious to see how he prepares his meals.

If you visit the site mentioned in the post above you will find tons. I basically make everything I eat from scratch.. this morning was lean ground beef, bacon, baby kale and egg whites. Kind of like a quiche. Lots of veggies. The hard part is no cheese but the benefits are worth it.

Hey Tiare, just so you know, I do exercise now on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. 1/2 hour on the bike that goes nowhere and then 1/2 hour weights and I am hoping to start paddling for the Everett canoe club and paddle my board in the sound soon.
Love Dad

That’s quite a great success story and a great example! Paleo is a pretty awesome diet, though I have to admit I do tweak it a bit to make sure I strategically place my carbs before long grueling runs.
I’m really happy to have discovered your blog. Thank you for “liking” my post, otherwise it would have taken me longer to find this blog.
