A Fit Body Starts with a Fit Mind

Since I’ve been home from Scottsdale, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking and reading. I’ve spent a lot of time with just myself, reflecting on the goals I have for the upcoming year. I realize that fitness has a lot to do with how you feel on the inside. Being healthy deals with the whole package about your happiness, peace, healthy diet and body. I’m reading this great book called Fit Soul, Fit Body by Brant Secunda and Mark Allen. A great quote from the book that they mentioned was:

“Working out will certainly give you a wonderful appearance. But if the person you are behind the chiseled body with six-pack abs does not experience inherent happiness with life, the picture will not be complete. Just look at the number of professional athletes who have bodies of steel bit turn to drugs and bad behavior hoping to find the things they are missing-happiness, fulfillment, inner peace.”

Health and Happiness or Inner-Peace are my ultimate goals. Without one or the other, you create a life that is out of balance. You need to explore the depths of who you are and who you want to become. A healthy body is key, but you need to develop a “sustainable lifestyle where you not only achieve long-term physical health, but also long-term emotional and spiritual health.”

Look at who you are today

What do you want to change?

Think of your life as a house. Houses get old and outdated and often need re-models. What can you do to improve each part of this house for the better? What do you need to get rid of that is cluttering your future life? Once you figure out what you want to improve, you will create a sturdy, new, functional, beautiful space that can be something you are proud of. Everything starts with a foundation. Without a foundation, the house will quickly fall apart.

Our body is like a house.

And a house without a soul doesn’t make the best home to live in.

Remember that without taking action, the house will stay the same, so remember to keep working and building yourself. It may not be perfect by tomorrow, but steady progression will create a beautiful home.

Today—-write a list of your fitness goals. Write a list of your emotional state and how you feel about yourself, how you feel about your passions and interests, about your education or work choices, about the friendships that surround you, about the relationship with your family, about what you spend your money on, about the romantic relationship or lack there of….think about what works and what doesn’t. Think about who you want to be and how you want to remodel your future self. Sometimes we need to sit down and write on paper exactly what we want in life. Sometimes at the end of all this, we realize everything we fill our lives with have nothing to do with who we want to be. Make sure you are pulling in the right direction. Life is too short to waste time on people and things that don’t add up. When you spend all your energy on things that prevent you from being who you want to become, you slow down your progress and continue to be the person you’ve always been. Do not live in fear of change…make sure you make the right decisions for your heart. Build the correct foundation. Good luck:)

  1. That post was great. I can’t wait to get back to working out and even more so, back to writing. My wrist is almost back to 100%. Keep up the good work. It is very inspiring to know you’re out there trying to make a difference.

    • thank you for your comment and coming to my page! I’m sorry about your wrist but i am glad that its getting better. It feels good to try to make a difference, even if its just to one person or in any small way

  2. My house is dilapidated at the moment…. I soo need to re-model! :) Your words are ever inspiring Titi!

    • there is always time to plan a re-model:) I’m in the same boat with trying to make changes:) love you cousin!!

      • love you too girl and you’re doing great!!

  3. Your right changing yourself is like remodeling a house you can’t stop mid remodel. It may take longer then you thought but you can’t stop. If you do your house will be worse off then when you started.

    • exactly! i love the way you put that. you can’t start something and then just abandon it…it will always look and feel unfinished as well as cause frustration. slow and steady changes for the positive are always a must:)

  4. I agree completely. I am currently reading a lot on zenhabits.net and doing a lot of self thought and reflection on how mentally feel as well as my physical.

    • i just added that site to my Google Reader a week or so ago! they have some great tips for everything on there! you just reminded me, I’m going to go read it now:) and self thought and reflection is always a must that i am “known” for putting on the back burner

  5. Thank you so much for this post! Very true words spoken greatly!! I have decided to become more FIT by the looking at your blog. It’s not enough just looking good on the outside, the inside also needs a transformation, and this is what I will continue to work on! :) The results are wonderful and bring on a sense of enlightenment. :)

    • im glad i could help in a small way:) but yes its about the inside-out and balance. we can’t have without the other and be satisfied:) good luck!

  6. Hi Tiare,

I nominated you for the Very Inspirational Blogger Award You can see the post here: http://kktrainingsystems.wordpress.com/2012/07/04/you-all-inspire-me/

    Thanks for inspiring me!

    • Thank you so much!!! I’m so happy to be able to inspire you and hope to continue!!!

  7. Hi Tiare,
I think both are somewhat related. After I started working on my body, I began to feel so much bettera about myself – each week brings an insight into how my body is stronger, faster, and more capable. This is an interesting thought though, I’m about to start on my list, and shall see where this gets me!

    • yes i agree, working out almost makes my mind feel better and more clear. how did your list turn out?

      • Turned out pretty well! It seems I lack a long-term goal in life. Nothing on my list really goes beyond two years. Starting with just my fitness goals, it turned into an intense two-hour introspection/self analysis session that left me feeling much lighter! Thanks for sharing :)

  8. This touches base with a little bit of everything I try to get through to people. A major thing is the happiness and inner peace. I personally believe that you don’t need to appear to be physically fit to be healthy. You writing it out in different words than I would’ve used helps alot. Keep up the good work!

    • yes because with happiness and inner peace, that means that your exterior is already something you’re happy with. i feel that working out helps gain inner peace also. I’m glad i could help with the different wording though:)

  9. Wow, this is such a great post. I couldn’t agree more with what you’ve said. And I feel that unless you have a healthy mindset that all the hard work (in the gym) in the world wouldn’t bring you the results you want.

You have a great blog! It’s very motivating! Thank you for stopping by my blog! Ciao!

  10. You’re a very wise young Lady.
